Telenor to sell 30 million SIM cards in eight months
YANGON—Telenor, which was awarded a telecommunication licence last week, will sell 30 million SIM cards for the first batch in the coming eight months, said Petter Furberg, chief executive officer of Telenor Myanmar.
“We are hoping to start with ‘095’ followed by seven digits (altogether ten digits). We’ll try to cover half of the population, which is 30 million,” he said.

U.S. trade bank launches operations in Myanmar
WASHINGTON, Feb 6 (Reuters) - The Export-Import Bank of the United States said it launched operations in Myanmar on Thursday, a move to support U.S. exporters against competitors and help reintegrate the country into the world economy.

Yatanarpon Public Company to be awarded telecom licence
YANGON—The Directorate of Telecommunications under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is planning to give out a telecom licence for the Yatanarpon Public Company to run communication services across the nation, according to the ministry.
The ministry earlier signed nationwide telecommunications licence agreements with two foreign telecom companies, Telenor and Ooredoo, on January 30 this year in Nay Pyi Taw.

German President To Make First Official Visit To Myanmar
YANGON, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- German Federal President Joachim Gauck will make his first state visit to Myanmar next week to attend the first Myanmar-Germany business forum.
Gauck's visit to Yangon is at the invitation of his Myanmar counterpart U Thein Sein and is expected to arrive in the country on Feb 11, Xinhua news agency reported.
During his visit, Gauck will inaugurate the German Goethe Institute in Myanmar and give a speech at the University of Yangon.

Myanmar to export high-quality rice to Japan
“We are now preparing to export 6,000 tons of rice that have already been tender awarded. Japan is going to buy native paddy strains and Myanmar is now test exporting high-quality rice to European countries,” said Soe Tun, director of the MAPCO.

As Myanmar opens up, payment solutions startup launches POS service with Visa and MasterCard
2C2P, a comprehensive payment solutions provider headquartered in Singapore, today launched a complete point of sale (POS) service in Myanmar in partnership with local bank Myanmar Citizens Bank. The service enables merchants in Myanmar to accept major international payment cards from both Visa and MasterCard.
The POS system will also come with online real time reports, slips with merchant logos, and pre- authorization for call center sales.

YANGON—Myanma Five Star Line will be purchasing three more ocean liners, according to MFSL deputy general manager Maung Maung Soe.
As the national flag carrier of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, MFSL now operates shipping services by running with 22 ocean-going vessels for domestic and foreign travel.
“We are planning to buy three more ocean liners before mid-year. We are going to promote economic growth between partnership countries depending on our export and import enterprises,” said Maung Maung Soe.
