Myanmar’s export earning from beans in the first one and a half months of fiscal year 2013-14 has dropped compared to that of the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
Beans earning between April 1 and May 17
this year was US$119.56 million, fallen from US$134.54 million earned
in the same period last year.
Beans are the major export commodity of
Myanmar. Over 160,000 tonnes of different kinds of beans have been
exported in this fiscal year. Among them, over 60,000 tonnes of exported
beans are mung beans, whose total earning alone was US$51 million.
India is a major beans export market of Myanmar, and decreased demand in India usually affects Myanmar’s beans earning.
Myanmar also exports beans to other Asian, Middle East, Europe, and Mediterranean countries.
