Muse Border Trade Centre remains open despite the recent violence in Lashio, Myanmar's northeastern Shan state, says an official of the centre, dismissing rumours that it was closed.
Deputy Director of the trade centre
Nanda said: "The news about the closing of Muse border gates is not
true. Regular trade activities are going on today (May 30)."
Myanmar exports rice, beans and pulses, corns and rubber to China via Muse B order Trade Centre.
A merchant from the Muse border also
said: "Trade flow is normal here in Muse but security has been
tightened. Some cars dare not go up to Muse for fear of further
violence. Commodity flow to China is just normal in Muse."
However, some Mandalay-Muse bus lines
have reportedly been suspended. Most of those suspended bus lines are
vehicles running from Mandalay to Lashio directly. Only some trucks and
van cars go to Lashio, according to locals.
Though Muse border gates remain open, authorities conduct checks at the exit points.
