Myanmar will educate workers
going abroad to learn to complain if they faced difficulty in job via
international non-governmental organisations (INGO), the media and
embassy, Myint Thein, Deputy Minister for Labor, Employment and Social
Security said.
The Deputy Minister answered the
question of Eleven Media Group in labor law affairs meeting held by
Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security and International
Labor Organization on February 11 at Kandawkyi Palace Hotel, Yangon.
“I met with Myanmar workers who are
working at construction of Central Department Store in Chiang Mai. They
don’t know much about overtime fees. They don’t know where to complaint
and some don’t know who their boss is. They have not enough necessary
documents either. We concluded that we need to educate them for better
working conditions,” the Deputy Minister said.
The Deputy Minister led the delegation
to Thailand on February 4 and made a conference with Myanmar Association
for Employee Protection and INGOs in addition to Myanmar Ambassador to
Thailand on February 9. Moreover the Ministry is planning to announce
phone numbers of eleven temporary passports issued office in a few days.
The Ministry will also urge the agencies to educate before sending
workers to job.
