The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been holding discussions with Myanmar officials regarding long-term investments in Myanmar projects, according to the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA).
The JICA will grant a loan of US$ 910 million (Ks 885.64 billion) as official development assistance to Myanmar for 2013.
JICA representatives met with officials from DICA on Oct 7 and 8 in Nay Pyi Taw to discuss official procedures for making investments, opportunities, and laws.
Japan will take up a 49-percent stake in building the Thilawa Special Economic Zone, which will use more than $380 million from the loan.
Currently Ministry of Construction is said to be working with JICA to build the Yangon-Thilawa Bridge.
At the opening ceremony of Myanmar-Japan Human Resources Development Centre, JICA chairperson Akihiko Tanaka said the projects would help Myanmar develop its human resources, fight poverty, and build infrastructure such as roads, bridges, electricity, and water, as well as the Thilawa SEZ.
Japan has invested more than $270 million in 37 Myanmar businesses, making it the 11th largest investor in the country.
