Myanmar and Japan discuss agricultural market

The Japan External Trade Organization, JETRO, held a meeting with Myanmar entrepreneurs on July 30 in Yangon to discuss exporting Myanmar’s agricultural products to Japanese markets.
Japan currently imports most of their agricultural products from China. However, due to the rising cost of labour in China prices are going up.

“Some companies are now discussing to export frozen products instead of raw materials. But Myanmar has no cooling factory. That’s why the Japanese are now interesting for building of cooling factories,” said an official from the Myanmar Fruits, Floral and Vegetable Exporters Association.

Japanese companies such as Tomiyama, NS Trading, Okaya, AGI Japan, Ohchis, Shikibo, Nippon Koei, PCBI, Shinnihonseiyaku, YAE NOGEI, Nichirei Food Inc and Mitsui discussed matters relating to the exports of agricultural products with Myanmar businessmen. They plan to make cultivation and production assessments of farm products in Shan State on July 31.
