"About 20 representatives from business
organisations are here with me. They have the intention to invest in
Myanmar and export products from here. Now French companies are starting
to invest in Myanmar. We have to thank the France trade commission
UBIFRANCE for the efforts they have made," said Nicole Bricq, France's
Foreign Trade Minister.
French companies are engaging in joint
ventures with local companies in construction sector. A France company,
Lapham is one of companies investing in the Thilawa Special Economic
Zone and is waiting for a chance engage in other sectors. Other
companies from France are still waiting to invest in infrastructure
development and also in the water sanitation sector.
"France oil giant, Total has invested in
Myanmar for a long time is also included in the delegation. The company
has implemented a development plan in the region for local people. It
has followed the rules and regulations for the environment. Our
companies can take responsibilities for what we have done,” added Nicole
Bricq.
France-based hotel chain, Novotel Hotel
Group is planning to open a hotel in Yangon in early 2014. The group has
opened a hotel in Mandalay and they aim to construct another in Nay Pyi
Taw.
