A two-tier flyover at the bustling Bayintnaung junction in Yangon will be opened to the public in January next year, according to officials.
"We only have a quarter left to
complete. We expect to be finished in December. Cars will be able to
cross the flyover in January," said Myint Kyaw, an official from the
Bayintnaung flyover project.
The two-tier flyover is located on the
busy Bayintnaung junction which intersects roads from Mayangone, Insein,
Thirimingala and Hlaing Tharyar townships. The flyover is being built
by the First Myanmar Investment Company (FMI) in cooperation with Yangon
City Development Committee (YCDC) and TPC Prestressed Concrete of
Thailand.
According to YCDC, the total budget for the construction of the Bayintnaung flyover is expected to cost 26 billion kyats.
Yangon authorities have contracted
private companies to build flyovers at Hledan, Shwegondine and
Bayintnaung junctions, namely the busiest intersections, to ease the
heavy traffic jams in the former capital.
The Hledan flyover was opened in April, but the construction of Shwegondine and Bayintnaung flyovers continues to create heavy traffic jams.

"We can't cross the Bayintnaung Bridge
from Insein Pauktawwa. The overpass project has narrowed the roads and
worsened traffic," said a bus driver from Golden Guest bus line.
