Win Aung, the current chairman of Myanmar's chambers of commerce and industry, has just been reelected on June 15 for a second four-year term.
The Union of Myanmar Federation of
Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) is the largest national-level
business organization in Myanmar, acting as a bridge between the State
and private sector. It is also a focal point of international trade
relations with other countries.
The federation held elections last
Saturday to at their head office in Yangon and Win Aung, co-founder of
Dagon International Ltd, was chosen for a second term. Similarly, most
of the existing 129 executive members were re-elected in an election
which took the whole of Saturday and finished only on 3am Sunday.
"The election process is 90 percent
democratic. However, some people group themselves to vote [each other],
but it just depends on the individual," an executive member said.
