After 1,500 K CDMA 800 MHz SIM cards sales, sales of 2 million GSM SIM cards begins to kick in again.
The GSM SIM cards are sold from one acquaintance to another. Some mobile shops also sell the cards.
“We haven’t had the cards in hand. But we can find the cards if the
customers want them. We arrange between buyers and sellers. Those cards
are registered with other names and used ones. The price is around
230,000 K and only GSM cards. I think the GSM cards are favorable
because they have better network or the 1,500 K SIM cards are limited
quantities or the 1,500 SIM cards are expensive in resale market,” Kyaw
Zin from 09 Mobile said in May 4.
The 1,500 K SIM cards are on sale in the resale market and have prices from 30,000 K to 80,000 K in resale market.”
“GSM SIM cards are ready to sell and we have around 3 million GSM SIM
cards. When all 1,500 SIM cards are sold out, we will start sell the
GSM cards,” a Chief Engineer (Mobile) from Myanmar Posts and
Telecommunications (MPT) said in May 4.
According to state owned newspaper published by May 4, “The 1,500 K
SIM cards are more advanced in voice technology than former CDMA SIM
cards. The internet connection is good too because they use higher
technology than the latter. The RUIM cards are manufactured and based on
France’s Operdhur technology and can only use with MEC top-up cards.”
Mobile users have bought GSM and WCDMA SIM cards again because the
number of 1,500 K SIM cards is limited and they can use only in limited
areas.
“The 2 million K SIM cards are sold with 180,000 K to friends and
acquaintances. Some mobile shops bought and sold them back with over 2
million K. WCDMA SIM cards are rare to find in resale market. We didn’t
sell those kinds of SIM cards. But if our customers want to buy them, we
asked other mobile shops and bought them for our customers,” a sources
from DoCoMo mobile shop said.
Currently 282 base stations have already constructed for the 1,500 K
mobile phones and further base stations are constructed to expand the
network.
The 1,500 K SIM cards are less popular than former CDMA 800 MHz
mobile phones because they have restrictions to use and can’t be used in
CDMA 450 MHz network just like the latter.
MPT stopped the selling of 2 million K GSM SIM cards over 4 months ago.
