PUTRAJAYA: MALAYSIA and Myanmar are working together to develop an international strategic partnership and strengthen cooperation in the fields of science and technology.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Maximus Johnity
Ongkili signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Myanmar's
Science and Technology Ministry Union Minister Dr Ko Ko Oo.
The MoU aims to allow knowledge sharing and expertise as well as to
facilitate scientific and technological know-how to advance the
economies of both countries.
It will also see the participation of public and private sectors
including universities, institutions, societies and organisations in
joint collaboration projects.
"The memorandum will strengthen the science and technology
capabilities of both countries, to expand relations between our
extensive scientific and technological communities aside from promoting
technological and scientific cooperation in areas of mutual benefit,"
Ongkili said in his speech.
A joint commitee on science and technology cooperation will also be
established to determine priority areas, to plan and coordinate, and
monitor the bilateral cooperation in both fields.
Prior to this, a bilateral meeting held in Myanmar on Nov 5 last
year has agreed that both countries would prioritise and start a
collaboration in biotechnology, standardisation and information and
communications technology (ICT) sectors.
