A local company has submitted a
proposal to build Myanmar’s tallest building in down town Yangon,
according to a government announcement.
December Construction Company planned to
erect a 44-storey building, with the name ‘Shwe Gone Office and
Apartment Tower’, located next two Sakura Tower and Traders Hotels, the
two well-known high buildings in downtown.
It will be located at the place of two famous cinemas Myoma Cinema and Shwe Gone Cinema on Bogyoke Aung San Road.
December Company is not only working on construction projects but also operates Hotel Shwe Gon Daing and some housing projects.
Meanwhile, Shwe Taung Company planned to
construct a 34-storey building in Bogyoke open air market in downtown.
The company will sign a land leasing contract with Yangon City
Development Committee (YCDC). People expressed their concerns that the
tall building would overshadow the Shwe Dagon Pagoda, the most sacred
site for Buddhists in the country.
The Bogyoke open air market belongs to
YCDC. The YCDC earlier said that it would not disclose the detail of
leasing price and the agreement period until the contract has been
signed.
