Asian Development Bank President
Haruhiko Kuroda will meet with President Thein Sein tomorrow in Nay Pyi
Taw on the first day of his three-day visit to Myanmar.
The visit follows the clearance of debts to the ADB, and other lenders, last month, and is the first to Myanmar for Kuroda.
The bank has set a medium-term goal for
assistance to Myanmar to support the government in creating jobs and
achieving sustainable and inclusive economic growth, it said.
“ADB will focus on continued analytical
work and capacity building in the areas of public sector and
macro-economic management, education, trade and private sector
development, rural development, transport and energy infrastructure,” an
ADB spokesperson said.
ADB president Haruhiko Kuroda will
outline the bank’s priorities for Myanmar in a talk on Friday in Yangon.
The bank is resuming operations in Myanmar with a US$512 million loan
for social and economic projects.
It adopted a three-year strategy for
investment last year that it said would dovetail with the government’s
democratic reform agenda.
