The wharf is needed to transport machinery and construction materials to
Dawei deep seaport and special economic zone project which will be
implemented in coming 2013.
"The wharf is being built for 6 months. It will be finished
construction on February, 2013. Dawei deep seaport project
implementation will increase speed in the coming year and we need a good
and reliable port to carry the construction materials. We have a
temporary jetty near the small wharf which is being built. It is for
temporary and not strong enough for waves and strong wind. Besides it
can't be docked the large ships. The new wharf can dock large ships
which can load 0.1 million tones weight," said Tin Maung Swe, president
of Dawei Special Economic Zone supporting working body.
"The small wharf won't be used after the project is completed. We will
use it during the project implementation periods and transfer it to
Myanmar Port Authorities for local use.
The ships which can dock at the
Yangon River have only about 30,000 tones and the jetty can allow
docking the weight of 0.1 million tones ships. It will become the
important wharf for the region. The jetty can allow one ship to dock at
one time and the ships will carry machinery and construction materials,"
he continued.
Also the company has started creating spaces to store machinery and goods on 100 acres land spaces near the wharf.
As soon as the wharf is finished, the company will measure the depth of
water to allow docking of large ships. The mouth of Pandatinn creek is
shallow and the company may need to dig the sand dunes at the mouth of
the creeks, according to locals.
