Information Ministry to lease government land under market value

Myanmar's Ministry of Information is planning to lease two plots of land in Yangon worth five billion kyats each to Forever Group, a joint venture company currently in business with the ministry.

The 2 acres are in Yay Ku broadcasting station in Yangon which is owned by the Ministry of Information. Forever Group is leasing the land to build a studio for their programmes.

The land lease contract is for an initial five years and after which it can be renewable for up to 11 years.

Therefore the Ministry of Information will get 600 million kyats for a five year contract for two acres of land worth 10 billion kyat.

At a press meeting in Nay Pyi Taw on June 29, Union Minister Soe Thein said that action can be taken against anyone of the cabinet ministers including himself if they are found making improper deals. But the accusation must be a concrete.

In order to fight bribery and corruption, the Anti-corruption Committee led by the Vice President Dr. Sai Mauk Kham and the Ministry for Home Affairs should investigate the matter.

The land to be leased on Waizayandar Road is worth over 10 billion kyats for one acre, according to the actual real estate and land market price.
