KUALA LUMPUR: The Myanmar government has invited companies to submit
bids for two nationwide telecommunications service licences, which will
be issued by the first half of 2013.
Its government said on
Tuesday the issuance of the licences was part of its policy framework to
develop its telecommunications and ICT industry by facilitating
competition of local and international operators in the sector.
"The
main goals are to increase the overall tele-density of the country to
75% to 80% in 2015-2016, to make the telecommunications services
available to the public at affordable prices, and to give the public the
capability of choice for the telecommunications services," said the
government.
The government said the Telecommunication Operator Tender Selection Committee was inviting telcos to express their interest.
As
the first step, the interested parties had to submit an expression of
interest no later than 3pm local time on Jan 25 to the committee at
mcit_tender@mcit.gov.mm or to the committee, Office Building No (32),
Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
