Vietnam to farm prawns in Myanmar

Vietnam is discussing with Myanmar to invest in sea water prawn farming, according to the Myanmar Fisheries Federation.

The federation earlier organised a trade fair for international farming and marine products on December 7 and 8, where firms from Southeast Asia and Europe participated.

Vietnam proposed a joint venture in sea water prawn farming and has expressed interest in establishing 500-hectare farms, according to Han Tun, vice chairman of the Myanmar Fisheries Federation.

“We discussed with many groups of businessmen for possible joint ventures in prawn farming, and the last Vietnamese group will potentially cooperate with us. We had detailed discussion,” he said.

He is optimistic with the future of prawn farming adding that the cooperation between the two countries will result in increased export of marine products to international markets and raise more revenues.
