Trading cards to be issued to boost Myanmar-Bangladesh border trade

Sittwe Border Trade Centre will soon issue Individual Trading Card for better border trading between Myanmar and Bangladesh, according to officials in the capital of Rakhine State.
Officials said that issuing the trading cards, upon the request by local traders, is aimed at boosting border trade with Bangladesh.

The issuance of the trading cards is also expected to curb illegal border trade and protect consumers’ rights.

Merchants from both countries used to meet once a month for border and there has been no more meeting since they last met in May last year, according to sources.

Citizen aged 18 or above can apply for the card. The cards are also being issued in Muse, the town near Myanmar-China border, and Myawaddy near Myanmar-Thailand border. It is valid for one year, according to Yan Naing Myint, deputy director of Sittwe Centre.

The registration fee is 50,000 kyats (around US$58). Registered traders can import goods worth not more than 1.5 million kyats (around US$1800).
