According to a press release, the project will enable a competitive telecoms sector through regulatory reforms to be made in the development of the information, communication and technology (ICT) sector.
“Myanmar has one of the lowest rates of telecommunications and internet access in the world. The vast majority of people face high costs, poor service or a complete lack of access,” World Bank country director Ulrich Zachau said in a release.
The project will also facilitate “e-government”, a project creating a single online window for government information and services.
“The reform of Myanmar’s telecommunications sector is an integral part of lifting millions of people out of poverty,” Mr Zachau said.
