Myanmar plans to launch e-book sales, rental service

The Myanmar Publishers and Distributors Association (MPDA) has reached an agreement with JAS Mobile Phone Company to launch Myanmar e-book sales and a rental service.

Among the organisations that have come to negotiate with us, the negotiation with JAS Mobile Phone Company went well. So, we will sign the contract on February 10,” said MPDA secretary Myint Tun.

“We will announce the contract and rules and regulations on that day. The publishers and writers can talk about copyright and protection. We will negotiate with people who have experience doing online business.”

Fees for the e-book sales and rental service can be paid via mobile phone billing.

The Forever Group launched the country’s first e-book business in 2003, but it was not successful.
