Yangon regional government is planning to construct a flyover at the Myaynigone junction, one of the most traffic prone junctions in Yangon, sources from the regional parliament say.
The project is estimated to cost around Ks 17 billion and the money will come from Yangon's regional government budget for next year. Myanmar-Japan Friendship Association has also announced that they will try to get a loan from Japan to cover some expenses.
The government is planning three special projects in the next fiscal year: the Myaynigone flyover, a new Nga Moe Yeik Bridge linking between Dawpone and Thingankyune townships and renovating an old Nga Moe Yeik Bridge linking Dawpone and Mingalar Taung Nyunt townships.
Yangon has constructed flyovers at Hledan, Shwe Gone Tine and Bayint Naung junctions. Hledan finished in April this year, while Shwe Gone Tine flyover expects to finished around the third week of November. Bayint Naung flyover includes two bridges crossing each other. It started construction in June 2012 expects to be finished in the next few weeks.
Increasing traffic jams are the reason some MPs have petitioned the government to construct a flyover at Myaynigone junction.
