Shwegondine flyover ready to be opened in December

YANGON—The Shwegondine flyover is expected to open on December 1 after receiving permission from the Yangon regional government.

Construction of the flyover began in December last year, and it is currently 90 percent complete. It is expected to be completed on November 30.

“The noise level of the vehicles isn’t that noticeable on the ground, but it increased as the vehicles came closer to the buildings after constructing the flyover. That’s why we will install a noise control system,” said Aye Thaw, project manager for Capital development Co Ltd.

Using Japanese technology, the noise control system will be installed near the Excel Treasure Tower and Shwegon Plaza.

“The flyover will be completed by November 30 and can be used starting from December 1. Vehicles can cross the flyover once we’ve received permission from the Yangon regional government and Yangon City Development Committee,” said Aye Thaw.

He added that the flyover would have been completed before the deadline if there were no delays in construction.

The Shwegondine flyover was commissioned by the Yangon regional government. It is constructed by Capital Development under the supervision of the Yangon City Development Committee.

The estimated budget for the flyover is Ks 17.44 billion (US$1.8 million).
