Myanmar recorded a trade surplus of more than US$ 136 million in September of the fiscal year (2013), according to official data from Ministry of Commerce.
The country's trade with neighboring countries collected a total of US$ 1.9 billion in the month, the ministry said.
With a total trade of US$ 1.9 billion, the country's export amounted to over US$ 1 billion, while its import stood US$ 926.04 million during the month.
The export and import included those done through normal and border trade.
As Myanmar used to show trade surplus through border trade and trade deficit through normal trade, the ministry is making efforts to crack down on illegal trade, organising special mobile teams to inspect the trade routes including the sea in the country.
Myanmar trades with other countries such as China, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and South Korea.
It earned more than US$ 18 billion from foreign trade in the fiscal year (2012-13).
