Air-conditioned carriages will be installed on Yangon's circular railway, according to officials from Yangon Central Railway Station.
Myanmar Railways (MR) has been running trial tests on Sunday with a second-hand RBE train bought from Japan last year.
"The train we bought is second-hand from
Japan but it is in good condition. It has ten rail carriages and all
are equipped with air-con and engines. In Japan, their system can
disconnect one carriage in each station but here we cannot do like
that," said Ye Lwin, Deputy Station Master from Yangon Central Station.
MR will charge 300 Ks per ticket for
circular railway and is now arranging to run to Kyaik Hti Yo, especially
ahead of the traditional light festival in September. But the ticket
prices have not been decided yet.
"During the trial test, we found that
some places along the railway are not suitable for the train and we will
smarten it up before running it," Ye Lwin added.
Myanmar made an agreement with Japan to
cooperate for a railway transport system at the end of last year.
Technicians from Japan are now checking the condition of the railroad
tracks, according to sources from Yangon Central Railway Station.
