Myanmar has invited bids for transforming the Mandalay international
airport into a logistics hub that will help in transporting goods from China and India to other countries in Asia and Europe, state media reported Thursday.
The winner from the private sector will be announced by the end of this month, Xinhua cited the New Light of Myanmar as saying.
The tender-winning company will start building infrastructure and
installing necessary devices at the airport in September with an
investment of more than $100 million.
The airport is accessible from every part of Myanmar within three hours
of flight. It is located 35 km south of the second largest city of
Mandalay, and is among airports with the longest runways.
At present, 22 international airlines and seven local airlines are operating in Myanmar.
