Myanmar is in discussion with Thai government about opening a new border trade center in Kayin State bordering Thailand, according to Zaw Min, the chief minister for Kayin State.
The center will be located at Phayar Thonesu (Three Pagodas Pass), a border area in Kyarinn Seikkyi Township in the Kayin State.
"It's still now in the phase of
discussion. The issues such as border security and national boundary are
also being discussed as the first step," Zaw Min added.
Myanmar had four border trade centers in
towns such as Myawaddy, Kawthaung, Tachileik and Myeik along its
1300-mile long border with Thailand. Two new centers in Mawtaung and
Hteekhee have been opened recently.
The Phayar Thonesu would be the seventh
center when officially opened, and another trade center is also under
official negotiation to open in Thailand's side bordering Myanmar's
Kayar State, according to officials.
Myanmar has also border trade centers in towns such as Muse, Lweje and Laiza at the border with China.
