The US-based General Motors (GM) plans to open a Chevrolet showroom in Myanmar at the end of this year, according to reports.
GM are the latest global motor company
to open up shop in Myanmar, which promises a growing demand as more
roads are built and consumers begin to buy more cars.
“This is a significant milestone of
Chevrolet in South-east Asia. Myanmar has over 60 million population and
we hope to see a growth in market demand," said Martin Apfe, Chairman
of GM's Southeast Asia operations.
GM plans to operate in joint-venture
with Singapore-based Alpine Group and Myanmar's AA Motor company to
operate vehicle dealing, market promotion and service centers as a
Chevrolet’s partners in Myanmar.
“Myanmar’s vehicle market is one of the
sectors for watching. Myanmar people own 90 percent more cars than five
years ago,” said Albert Pang, Managing Director of Pacific Alpine Pte.
Ltd.
Chevrolet is a brand of GM. The company
was founded in 1911 with headquarters in Detroit, United States and now
operates a global business in 140 countries and selling over 4 million
of saloon cars and light trucks per year.
