BANGKOK, 20 June 2013: Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau aims
to source opportunities in Myanmar to establish business channels to
strengthen the exhibition industry between the two countries.
TCEB Exhibition director, Supawan Teerarat, said the first official
roadshow in Yangon, Myanmar, held late last month, was a platform to
illustrate how Thailand’s exhibition industry could help Myanmar tap
regional business opportunities.
“Myanmar and Thailand are facing challenging time when collaboration
especially in trade relations development and technology is crucial to
secure sustainable business growth.”
TCEB exhibition is committed to
developing links in Myanmar and Thailand through trade shows that will
be held in Thailand, she added.
“Participation in trade shows organised in Thailand will help
companies in Myanmar to network with Thai and regional stakeholders at
both government and commercial levels. This will help Myanmar’s
companies to increase their trading value through Thailand’s exhibition
platform”.
Transport, ICT, energy, education, culture and tourism are the key
segments that are gaining the attention of the ASEAN exhibition
industry.
Trade relations between the two countries have been in place for
decades and Thailand remains one of the top three international trade
partners of Myanmar.
According to statistics reported by Thailand’s Department of Foreign
Trade, for January to February this year, trade between the two
countries reached US$1,326 million (Bt38,477.83 million) or 64.88%
compared to the same period in 2012.
Last year, the trade volume between Thailand and Myanmar was
approximately US$7,287 million (Bt211,345.96 million), a 9.85% higher
than 2011.
