Because of poor transportation of Mawtaung Trade Zone and poor customer services at fish wholesale dealers from Thailand, Myanmar fish merchants will be using Kawthoung and Ranong border trade route during the rainy season.
Mawtaung trade zone was opened last
month and it still needs to improve road conditions. However,
transportation charges are less expensive than the water route through
Kawthoung and Ranong. The goods will be transported in short time as
well.
The dealers of fish wholesale market
from the Thailand said they would buy the fish at the current market
price. Eventually they bargained the fish when exported, a fish merchant
who sold his fish at the wholesale center. Fish were imported only on
May 8. No more fish were imported after that day via Mawtaung.
"The fish value of 50 million kyats was
sold at 22 million kyats. I will not export over that route again and I
will choose Kawthoung-Ranong waterway," a fish and fishery product
seller from Myeik told the Eleven Media.
Mawtaung should have an aution house for fish and the road should be fixed for better transportation to serve, experts say.
