Kurt Campbell, a former top US diplomat who until recently dealt with
Burma, arrived in Naypyidaw on Friday to lobby for a huge contract to
overhaul Rangoon’s international airport, the state-run New Light of
Myanmar reports.
He was welcomed by Burmese Vice-President Nyan Tun and
several deputy ministers. Campbell, the former deputy assistant
secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, started a company
called the Asia Group last year. The firm is lobbying on behalf of an
American consortium, including Boeing Professional Services, Burns &
McDonnell Engineering and Fentress Architects, that wants to upgrade
Rangoon’s airport.
