Myanmar trade volume of this fiscal year has increased despite decreasing export of jade, one of the country’s most sought after commodity, according to the announcements of the commerce ministry.
The amount of trade volume hits $17
billion for this year which is $255 million more than it did in the same
period of previous fiscal year.
Of $17 billion trade volume, the export
volume was more than $8.2 billion and the import volume was at least $
8.7 billion as of March 01, 2013.
The jade export was the priority for the
country's income over the past years. Last year, the Chinese government
has raised the tax to 34 percent from 3.3 percent on Myanmar jade,
dampening the appetite of traders. It results a sharp decline in the
export of jade. The Chinese are the top buyers of Myanmar’s jade.
Myanmar government is also requesting US
and EU to lift the sanction on Jade and gems export constantly so that
the country can export jade to the west besides China.
Statistics show this year, Myanmar has
exported more argri-products mainly and imported fuel and raw material
for commercial use.
Setting up mobile inspection teams to curb illegal trade at border towns helps increase normal trade this year.
The commerce ministry launched Automatic
Licensing System on June 1, 2012 for 152 export items and 166 import
items. These items are permitted to trade without taking any license as
of March 1, 2013 according to new system of the ministry.
