The Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Association for Asia- CASBBA held a forum in Singapore on February 27.
The CASBBA aimed to find out investment
ways in Myanmar because there were many TV channels required in the
country compare with its populations.
Over 100 delegates, speakers and guests
including Director General of Myanmar Radio and Television Tint Swe
attended ‘the Myanmar In View forum.’
The CASBAA members provided a platform
for industry experts to share their experiences and insights to help
businesses break into this burgeoning economy.
“The people are desirous of Myanmar and
its market information from this forum and interested in doing business
in Myanmar” CEO Mr. Christopher Slaughter from CASBBA said.
Tint Swe said “I think, media businesses will boom and become systematic within next five years.”
“Besides, Myanmar lacks of human
resources and doesn’t have reliable electricity. Myanmar needs
investments, technology, training and education programs to help media,”
he said.
Emerging from years of international
isolation, Myanmar is undergoing significant political and economic
change and has started to adopt market-friendly policies. Home to 55.6
million people and 11.1 million households, Myanmar’s pay-TV industry is
still in its infancy and has 375,000 active pay-TV subscribers,
representing a household penetration rate of only 3.4%, according to the
CASBBA.
