Shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) became the latest Japanese
multinational to announce a presence in Myanmar when it confirmed on
February 14 that the Directorate of Investment and Company
Administration (DICA) had approved its application for a business
license on February 14.
Launched under the name Myanmar MOL Limited, Mitsui is one of the first
companies in the shipping industry that has set up its wholly owned
subsidiary, it said.
“With over 100 years of MOL presence and
continuous commitment in Myanmar, MOL has launched a direct feeder
service linking Singapore and Yangon since March 2012. The service
provides a scheduled sailing to our customers in Myanmar with assured
transit time and connections to our global network over Singapore,” the
firm said on its website on February 14.
“The establishment of
our wholly-owned subsidiary in Myanmar is another indication of our
continued commitment to the Myanmar market bringing us closer to our
customers,” it said.
MOL said it will continue to work with its
current agent in Myanmar, Ever Flow River Forwarding, to “explore
various opportunities in Myanmar, so as to mirror and extend our global
service standards.”
