Japanese companies will have to invest in Myanmar’s weak
infrastructure sector at first, Mr Yoshio Nakamura, the vice chairman
for Keidanren told Eleven Media Group lately.
“We are worried much about the infrastructure. We need more stable
status of power supply in the country. Myanmar has a lot of human
resources. So we need to invest in the sector firstly. Investments in
manufacturing will be ready to enter only after the investments come
first in the sectors such as power supply, roads, railways and water
supply,” he said.
As big amount of money is needed for investments in the
infrastructure, the Japanese companies are in need of ODA (Overseas
Development Assistance) in large amount from Japanese government,” he
added.
“As the amount needed for investments in the infrastructure is huge, they need ODA from Japan government primarily,”
As Myanmar is very poor in infrastructure, foreign investors eager to
enter the country are concerned about it, according to sources from
foreign investors’ community.
“It’s still a problem that Myanmar is poor in communications and
information technology as well as in infrastructure,” said a director
from a consultant company for foreign investors.
Mr.Yonekura, Keidanren’s chairman also said on February 7 that Japan
has been currently providing assistance for Myanmar to build
infrastructure with study projects for upgrading Yangon Port's Inland
Water Transport, Yangon City's Environmental Development, building
infrastructure for Thilawa Special Economic Zone and Smart Community.
