Asian Development Bank (ADB) planned to provide US$50 million
to Myanmar for developing education, rural and urban development,
tourism, non-government organization, business projects and technical
assistance, according to Mr. Haruhiko Kuroda, President of ADB and the
Chairperson of ADB's Board of Directors.
It is the first time for the president of ADB to visit Myanmar after
the bank establish working relations with the current administration.
The bank chairperson met with Thein Sein and the senior government
officials during his visit.
He promised to help for Myanmar reformed plan and discussed the
officials with which sectors Myanmar are needed. He believed that
Myanmar will implement to economic development if ADB aimed mainly to
develop human skill development, The ADB president said.
“ADB will use US$23 million to provide technical assistance for
upgrading human resources and organizations. We will mainly use the fund
to develop social organizations in addition to rural development,
HIV/AIDS sector and urban development. The ADB will spend US$17 million
as microfinance to construct basic infrastructure,” Mr. Kunio Senga,
Director General of ADB said.
Myanmar’s GDP is developing to 7% to 8% annually and Myanmar will be a middle income country, according to ADB analysis.
