Vietnam and Myanmar signed five joint-venture agreements worth US$543 million during a business forum in Yangon on November 30.
Vietnam President Truong Tan Sang
attended the event at the head office of the Republic of the Union of
Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
He declared on the occasion that
although bilateral trade between Myanmar and Vietnam amounted to US$150
million currently, it would be increased to US$500 million by 2015.
During the forum, businessmen from both
sides discussed possible cooperation in 11 industries, including oil and
gas, energy and telecommunications.
President Truong Tan Sang paid a
three-day visit to Myanmar from November 29 to December 1. He was
accompanied by about 80 Vietnamese business persons from different
industries.
Vietnam’s investment in Myanmar amounts
to only US$50 million until October 2012. It has invested in four
manufacturing projects and banking in the country.
