Myanmar will hold the US-Myanmar Trade and Investment Relationship: The Path Forward Conference in Yangon on February 25, 2013.
Held at the head office of the Republic
of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry
(RUMFCCI), “this conference will be the very first economic forum for US
and Myanmar. The event will be co-organised by RUMFCCI and US Chamber
of Commerce," Zaw Min Win, vice chairman of the RUMFCCI, said.
The conference will focus on Myanmar’s
economic development priorities and objectives, explore opportunities to
expand US-Myanmar trade and investment in key business sectors, and
forge bilateral business partnerships.
According to RUMFCCI, leading Myanmar
business executives, their US counterparts and those from around the
Asean region, government officials, development specialists and
academics will attend the conference and discuss a wide range of issues,
including boosting investment, propelling economic growth and
integrating Myanmar into the Asean, Asian and global economy.
Myanmar investors are preparing to
cooperate with the US in developing teak and wood products, and they
hope the US will bring more employment opportunities, said Zaw Min Win.
Myanmar investors are also interested in
exporting furnished wood products to Europe and the US, which will be
the main focus of Myanmar investors in the upcoming US-Myanmar
Conference, he said.
As of September 2012, the US has invested US$243.57 million in Myanmar.
