South Korean girl group 2NE1 to mesmerise Yangon

South Korean girl group 2NE1 will perform their first concert in Myanmar on August 2 at Yangon’s Thuwunna Stadium, according to the organisers Samsung Myanmar.

The first 50 customers who buy Samsung Tab S devices at the promotional events in Yangon and Mandalay on July 4 and 5 are entitled to free tickets.

“Sometimes we have to engage music [artists] to promote our products around the world. 2NE1 is a widely recognised K-pop outfit. That’s why we’ve been inviting them to do a promotion tour in Southeast Asian countries over the past few years. As for this year we have arranged for them to perform in Myanmar,” said Samsung Myanmar marketing manager Kyaw Swar Linn.

“In the initial stages of the Tab S campaign, we will give away free concert tickets to the first 50 customers who buy the product on July 4 and 5 at two Samsung shops in Yangon and Mandalay. Besides, the first customer will receive two complimentary tickets. We will announce other promotional programmes for free concert tickets. There are plans to sell the tickets separately, but they will be sold by a separate ticketing agency. Samsung will not sell them directly,” he added.

With pricing yet to be announced, the tickets are rumoured to range between Ks30,000 (US$30) to Ks200,000 (US$200).

Formed in 2009 as a four-member girl group with the YG Entertainment label, 2NE1 (pronounced “to anyone”) consists of CL, Bom, Dara, and Minzy. Right from the outset, the outfit has been amassing top awards including ‘Song of the Year’ for the tracks ‘I Don’t Care’ and ‘I Am the Best’ at the Mnet Asian Music Awards. Their latest album “Crush” has sold in excess of 60,000 copies in South Korea, 5,000 and 7,000 copies in the United States and Japan respectively. They performed in Singapore last week as part of the “AON: All or Nothing” tour to promote their latest album.
