In a speech to parliament marking the third anniversary of his presidency, Thein Sein said his economic and political reforms had already succeeded in reintegrating Myanmar into the international community.
"Three years ago right here, I made a solemn pledge that we would try to stand as a respectable country in glory while actively participating in international organisations," he said.
Myanmar’s chairmanship of the Association of South-East Asian Nations, its hosting of the 27th SEA Games, visits by top foreign leaders and a flood of international investment have been among the fruits of his government’s reform policies, he said.
"Our reform process is well-received and recognized by the international community and they have been rendering necessary assistance as much as they can," he said.
"For their kind consideration and support, I, would hereby like to express our sincere appreciation to the international community.
