Allen & Gledhill has entered the emerging South East Asian market through establishing an associate firm branded as Allen & Gledhill (Myanmar). Located in Yangon, Allen & Gledhill (Myanmar) will be headed by partner Minn Naing Oo, who has relocated from Singapore.
Minn, a Singapore-qualified lawyer, joined Allen & Gledhill in Singapore as a partner last June, following a six-year term serving as the chief executive of Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) (25 April 2013).
At the time of Minn’s joining, the firm stated that his role would be to lead and develop the firm’s presence in Myanmar.
Allen & Gledhill has been seeking an independent strategy to develop a South East Asia network following its terminated merger talks with Allen & Overy in 2012 (26 March 2012).
In 2013, the firm set up another associate firm in Laos’ capital city Vientiane named Allen & Gledhill (Laos). In Malaysia, the firm already has a long-standing association with local firm Rahmat Lim & Partners.
It is one of a small number of Singaporean firms to have a presence in Myanmar, following Rajah & Tann (1 February 2013), Colin Ng & Partners and Kelvin Chia Partnership.
