Civil servants to receive small pay, pension, and allowance hikes

NAY PYI TAW—The Myanmar government is planning a Ks 20,000 (US$ 20.39) salary increase for civil servants and an increase in pensions and other allowances on a proportional basis in the upcoming fiscal year, President Thein Sein said yesterday.

He made the remark during the first meeting of the Financial Commission in 2014, which was held at the Presidential Palace.

The government made the decision to increase civil servants’ salaries, pensions and other allowances in a suitable timeframe after calculating the State funds, salary rates, economic development prospects, and other possible impacts, he said.

The president said that the government will submit the Union Budget for the 2014-2015 fiscal year, the 2014 Union Budget Bill and the Taxation Bill to the Parliament during the upcoming session.

Last April, the government approved a Ks 20,000 salary increase for civil servants, pensions and other allowances.
