Myanmar seizes illegal goods worth Ks 3 billion

Authorities have seized illegally imported goods worth nearly Ks 3 billion in the period from April 1 to November 30, according to the Customs Department.

The illegal merchandise was seized by customs in Yangon's airports, docks and at various border checkpoints around the country.

The department said it confiscated illegally imported goods such as medicines, cosmetics, computers and accessories, watches and mobile handsets during in November alone at Yangon International Airport.

In September, 476 kilos of precious stones, suspected to be jade worth around Ks 47 million, was seized from a vehicle travelling from Mandalay to Muse on the border with China.

Also in August, the department seized jade merchandise worth about Ks 12.3 million at the Muse checkpoint.
