President encourages Europe to invest in Myanmar

President U Thein Sein urged European companies to make responsible investments in Myanmar’s growing businesses during a meeting with High Representatives from the European Union (EU) in Naypyidaw on 15 November.

Fiscal support from European corporations would boost both Myanmar’s commercial sector and its economy. As a result, European backers would get a high return on their investments.

According to figures released by the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA), Europeans invest far less capital in Myanmar than they do in its neighbors, including Thailand and China.

This meeting between the president and EU Representatives was a part of the first EU-Myanmar Task Force that took place in Yangon and Naypyidaw from 13 to 15 November. The purpose of the Task Force is to provide comprehensive support to the transitions occurring in Myanmar by bringing together all of the tools and mechanisms – both political and economic– available to the EU.
