Jetstar Asia boosts Yangon flights

Jetstar Asia is boosting its services between Singapore and Yangon in Myanmar with three extra flights a week from later ths month.

The low-cost carrier, which started operating on the route in 2005, will increase its number of flights to 10 a week from November 20, offering 15,600 seats a month.

Jetstar Asia CEO Bara Pasupathi said demand from Myanmar’s burgeoning tourism market was behind the move. “In the last few years as Myanmar has opened up and more tourists have started to explore this country, the demand for our low fares services has grown significantly.”

“It is fantastic to be able to offer even more options for not only our point to point travellers from Singapore but also to our Jetstar customers flying into our Singapore hub from other parts of the region,” he said.

Pasupathi added that Myanmar’s tourism industry had seen revenue grow by 67% between 2011 and 2012, from US$315 million to US$534 million.
