Upgrading work for low capacity natural gas power plants

Upgrading works for low capacity natural gas power plants are to be integrated by foreign and local investments, according to Minister Aung Than Oo of the Ministry of Electric Power.

“There are many visits made by foreign and domestic companies who are interested in doing upgrading works for low capacity power plants currently running in Myanmar,” the Minister said.

At present, there are ten power plants currently running and they can produce 700 megawatt. But, these plants really produced around 300 megawatt.

The old Ngan Tae power plant in Mawlamyine is making upgrading works with Myanmar Lighting (IPP) Company Ltd, and planning to distribute electricity to Mon State and Kayin State.

“The capacity in Ngan Tae power plant is degrading and the difference between the natural gas used and the amount of electricity produced is quite large and so we are planning to upgrade with a company,” he added.
Some Myanmar companies as well as companies from United States of America and other countries are paying visits here and making observation to do upgrading works.

While in observation and in upgrading works, these power plants will run as usual as to fulfill the requirements of Myanmar’s electricity.
