Myanmar has now nearly four million motor cars officially registered to run on its roads through out the country, according to official figures from Department of Transport.
The department said it has officially registered 3,739,807 motor cars
and the biggest regions such as Yangon, Mandalay, Sagaing and Magway
have the most among them.
The official classification includes vehicles such as passenger cars,
trucks, passenger buses, two-wheels, three-wheels, and machineries.
Yangon, the commercial hub of the country, has passenger cars and buses
mostly registered, and Mandalay has motorbikes mostly, the department
said.
Yangon took up about 10 per cent of all motors registered in the whole country with nearly four lakhs of registered vehicles.
And the city faced more traffic congestions in these days as the
government’s new car replacement program stimulated more vehicle imports
into the country and the city received the largest share of it.
A law is on its way to tackle the traffic congestion effectively of
the city by Yangon City Public Transport Authority which is formed
recently by the government.
And the Greater Yangon Strategic Development Plan, which has been
partly funded in coordination with the Japan International Cooperation
Agency to be implemented jointly with Yangon Region’s government, will
include construction of rapid circular roads to relieve the congestion.
