MPT to expand mobile phone stations in next fiscal year

By the next fiscal year, the number of mobile phone users will increase by 85 per cent and the number of mobile phone relay lines will jump up to 14 million lines, according to Myanmar Posts and Telecommunication (MPT) official announcement.

Although Myanmar has seen increasing number of mobile phone users annually, the mobile penetration rate is still low compare with the population.

After MPT will organize telecommunication providers, it will expand mobile phone lines annually. It will increase to four million mobile phone lines in 2013-14, five million mobile phone lines in 2014-15 and five million mobile phone lines in 2015-16, according to the release.

Myanmar phone density is 10 per cent in 2012-13 and will have 27 per cent in 2013-14, 50 per cent in 2014-15 and 75 per cent to 85 per cent in 2015-16, according to the MPT estimate.
