Imphal, May 04, 2013: Aimed at strengthening trade relationships with the immediate international neighbour, a high level State delegation led by Chief Minister Okram ibobi Singh will be visiting Saigang Division of Myanmar in the latter part of this month.

Unless there is a last minute change of schedule, the CM, accompanied by Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, Education Minister M Okendra and top department officials, will leave for the Myanmar division on May 26, said an informed source.

It is said that Chief Minister of Saigang Division U Thar Aye sent a formal invitation for the Manipur Chief Minister to the Ministry of home Affairs, Govt of India.

Confiding that the official missive from Thar Aye is currently with the officials of Indian Chamber of Commerce, the source said focus of the visit would be on improving the Indo-Myanmar border trade.

In connection with the up-coming visit, a meeting of the Committee for Bonafide Foreign Travel by Government officials on Government expenditure was reportedly held today as it is mandatory to get the Committee's nod in case Ministers or Government officials, including IAS-ranked officers travel to foreign countries on official trip/purpose.

According to the source, a series of seminars related to border trade would be conducted in both Saigang and Mandalay for the State delegation and their Myanmar counterparts.

As per initial itinerary of the CM's visit, a seminar on May 28 at Mandalay would deliberate on issues concerning development of surface transport network to link South East Asian countries with Manipur as well as discuss means to enhance trade potential in the region.

A buyers-buyers meet on the sidelines of the said seminar would be followed by a meeting between O Ibobi Singh and his Saigang counterpart Thar Aye, maintained the source.
