Border trade centres will take legal action against illegal traders starting January 1, 2013, the Ministry of Commerce said.
The
Department of Border Trade under the Ministry of Commerce formed mobile
teams to control illegal border trade. The teams have imposed tighter
trade rules since November in the trade routes of Muse-Mandalay and
Myawaddy-Yangon; and since December in Muse, Chinshwehaw, Tachileik,
Myeik, Kawthoung, Tamu, Reedkawdah border trade centres.
The mobile
team seized illegal trade worth almost US$90,000 in the Muse-Mandalay
trade route and more than $190,000 in the Myawaddy-Yangon trade route.
“The
department formed mobile teams to reduce illegal trade at border trade
centres from November 1 to December 31. Now the time is nearly up and we
will take legal action against illegal trade starting from January 1,
2013,” said an official who don’t want to be named from Department of
Border Trade.
