Yangon to invite bids for a new overpass soon

Yangon's authorities will soon activate the bids for construction of Myaynigone Overpass, according to Yangon Region government.

The overpass construction has been planned as a special project of the regional government to be carried out in the fiscal year 2014-15, aiming to reduce the heavy traffic congestion at the Myaynigone junction in San Chaung Township.

Currently the authorities are conducting a survey about the traffic flow at the junction as a preparation.

"The construction of Myaynigone Overpass will begin in this fiscal year. So we asked for the allocation of government funds. We will soon invite local private companies for tender, said an official from the regional government.

The total expenditure for the project will be Ks 16.9 billion. And the previously completed overpasses are Hledan Overpass at a cost of Ks 14.48 billion, Shwegondine Overpass at a cost of Ks 13.38 billion, and Bayintnaung Overpass at a cost of Ks 21.74 billion.

Private companies were authorized to build the Hledan, Shwegondine and Bayintnaung overpasses which are the junctions with the heaviest traffic flow in the city under a plan to reduce traffic congestion.

Shwe Taung Company undertook the Hledan project which started in February 2012 and was opened in April 2013. FMI Company undertook the Bayintnaung which started in June 2012 and was opened by the end of 2013. Capital Development Company undertook the Shwegondine which started in December 2012 and was opened in December 2013.

Details are to be released on the project and construction deadline for the Myaynigone Overpass.
